This cottage is something special, whilst situated on a quiet country lane, it is only a few minutes stroll to a medieval market town with its bars, restaurants, boulangeries, etc.

The house has been carefully restored by the current owners and has beams, stone fireplaces and a mix of terracotta and wooden floors.  The accommodation comprises of two spacious bedrooms upstairs, both with double beds.  There is also a small upstairs bathroom with W.C. basin and a small bath.


 

Downstairs there is a large sitting room with a fireplace and wood burning stove, oak floor and beams.  There is also an additional old French style bed in this room which could be used for an extra child, or by a family with two teenage children, for example.  Adjoining, is a big kitchen/dining room with beamed ceiling, terracotta tiled floor, fireplace with range and a corner kitchen area with gas cooker, fridge and dishwasher.  There is also a utility room with washing machine, additional fridge/freezer and a second sink.  The main bathroom is on the ground floor and has a roll top bath, basin W.C. and separate shower.


 

French windows lead out to an enclosed courtyard with a small sunny terrace, ideal for breakfast, and a larger shady vine covered terrace looking out to the back garden and orchard which is fenced.

 

 

The small fortified town of Chenerailles, is 3 or 4 minutes walk down a quiet lane and offers 4 bars, 2 good restaurants. 2 bakeries, 2 small supermarkets, plus banks, post office, tourist office and all the usual facilities.  There is a market on the 5th and 20th of each month.

Chenerailles has 100 hectaires of forest around it so there are plenty of walks, one of which leads to a swimming lake and beach.  There are also fishing lakes and a tennis court.  Further fishing, bicycle hire and horse riding are all available nearby.  A bit further afield there is the town of Gouzon, 10 minutes drive away with its weekly market,  larger supermarket and 18 hole golf course. Only 15 minutes drive is the well known historic town of Aubusson.

In the area there are lots of chateaux, ancient churches and of course the regular street brocantes which go on all summer.  There are always plenty of things to do - just look in the Tourist Office.

 

 

 

How Do I get there?

 

 

 

 


The location of the cottage is approx 50km (50 mins) drive from the A20 (which is part of the main route through from Orleans to Toulouse).
You will need to exit at Junction 23 heading in the direction of Gueret.

By air there are now direct flights from Stansted Airport, London to Poitiers and also to Limoges, being operated by Ryanairlines
and there is car hire available at the airport.  Poitiers is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive away, and Limoges which is just over  hours drive.
