Moulin de Boirot can be found just outside the small village of Folles.
Folles is about a twenty-minute scenic car journey from Bessines sur Gartempe, which is just off the main A20 motorway-standard road which runs down France from Orleans.

As the River Gartempe runs along the bottom of the field, fishing is very close at hand. Catch some rainbow or brown trout for the BBQ, or for the coarse fishermen there are barbel, chubb, roach, zander and some very fine specimens of carp.

Anytime you fancy a break, the kitchen and a cup of tea are 1 minute away from the river bank!

The house is in the Haute Vienne, with its amazing diversity in its landscapes and unspoilt natural habitats. The chestnut forests of the newly-created Regional Nature Park of Perigord/Limousin alternate with the moorlands and peatbeds of the Ambazac mountains. And of course it is the original place where the Limousin cattle are bred.

Limousin lies roughly in the centre of France and has preserved much of its natural beauty. It is a region of hills, river valleys and lakes, high plateaux and forest, great feudal fortresses, Renaissance chateaux and mediaeval towns and villages

You won't be bored with the variety or traditional festivals, village feast-days including huge firework displays, and local fairs, allowing you the opportunity to meet the people and share the local lifestyles.

Limoges is only 40 minutes away making this an ideal base for the many places of cultural and historical interest.

We have a large patio area with patio furniture and BBQ, which leads directly onto the field and down to the River Gartempe, where you can sit and count the kingfishers flying by.

From the patio you can enter the house into the large day room comprising:

  • a well-equipped kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, gas cooker and toaster)
  • dining area with seating for up to eight people
  • lounge area with comfortable chairs, TV with free-to-air Sky, video recorder, DVD player inc. some videos and DVDs, Hi-Fi system.

There is also a small sitting room that has a sofa-bed, a bookcase full of books and many board games, jig-saws, etc.

Also on the ground floor there is a large double bed-room with en-suite (shower, toilet and washbasin).

On the first floor there are two bed-rooms, one a double, the other a twin and another shower room with toilet and washbasin.

Accessed from outside there is a utility room which has a washing machine, tumble drier, sink and for the fishermen a fridge to store the fish bait.

The village of Folles is about a five-minute walk away and has a post office, church,  pub with restaurant and village shop attached where you can order bread and buy fishing permits.

The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking; there are a couple of scenic circular walks to do that start from the village.

About a 10 minute car drive will take you to a lake which has a beach area where in the Summer time you can swim or hire out pedalos. Or you can fish, play crazy golf then simply relax with a drink at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere.

Canoeing is very popular and this can be done in the local river, where you can hire a kayak and take lessons.
Saint Pardoux is a very large lake about twenty minutes away. Several parts of the lake have been turned into beach areas, with the usual facilities of pedalos, swimming and cafes. Also canoes, sailing boats, water-skiing and windsurfing are available.

There are several small towns within a 20-minute car drive, having tourist information centres, shops and restaurants.

Limoges is approx. 40 minutes drive from the house. The old town is full of character. Wander through the famous Meat Market, then visit the museums and world-famous porcelain shops.

How Do I get there?

The location of the Moulin is 20 mins drive from the A20 (which is part of the main route through from Orleans to Toulouse).
You will need to exit at Junction 23.1  heading for  St. Etienne de Fursac.

It is approximately a 6-hour car journey from the Channel Tunnel or from the ferry ports of Calais or Caen. From Cherbourg it is about a 7-hour car journey.  Limoges airport is about 40 minutes away and there is an excellent rail service from Waterloo to Poitiers via Lille or Paris.
