The Watermill is situated in the Haute-Vienne, in the heart of the truly picturesque countryside of the Limousin. 

The Haute Vienne is a department where traditions are still very much part of daily life.  A particular attraction lies in the variety of its landscapes, which range from wooded slopes of the Basse-Marche to the rugged peaks of the Grands Monts.  Here you can savour the beauties of nature at a leisurely pace on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, and on the way discover the picturesque charm of the little known villages such as Mortemart, (un des plus beau village de France), Bellac and Bessines. You will be surprised by the number of Romanesque chapels, fortified churches, chateaux and sturdy castles, not to mention the warm hospitality of the regions many family-owned inns.

Of course a visit to Limoges is essential.  The capital of the Limousin region is 30 minutes drive away and famous for its fine and unique porcelain.  Also enjoy the magnificient market in the renovated Halles, and try one of the many restaurants nearby, with an excellent price-quality ratio ('Chez Alphonze' and "l'Amphytrion")

Poitiers is 1 hours drive avay, and is an old university town with its very famous film attraction park Futuroscope

Only 5 km (5 minutes) from the nearest town of Chateauponsac which has all necessary amenities including a supermarket, banks,
post office, chemists and bakers, together with restaurants, a museum and stunning views over the River Gartempe.

Watersport enthusiasts will find all they need in the well-equipped beached lakes (only 8km from the lac de Saint Pardoux, 330 ha large)  to utilise their energy, or just relax.  Many lakes being ideal locations for fishing as are the lovely rivers in the area.  The swimming pool in the camping municipal near the Gartempe river in Chateauponsac is free.

       

The Watermill and the smaller Miller's House is set in 4 hectares of grounds and gardens in the delightful valley of the river Couze.  There is a lovely lawned garden with lots of flowers, garden furniture, and a very large terrace with plenty of shade under the trees as well as south facing sunny areas. With the view of the countryside and the river close by it is a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, sunbathe, read a book or eat outside.  There is a large B.B.Q. and plenty of carved wood.  Help yourselves to sage, rosemary, thyme, laurel, chives and marjoram.  You can fish in your own river for trout and salmon, or perhaps bathe in the dam part of the river.


 

The accommodation consists of a traditionally large beamed house.  The large kitchen with a view on the river is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, cooker, fridge freezer and microwave and a table that sits 4.

 

 

There is a large downstairs living/dining-room with a wonderful view and easy access to the terraces by french windows, a large table that sits 8,  grand fireplace and lovely antique furniture.

 Also on the ground floor there is a large  bedroom 2 x single beds and access to the bathroom which has a bath, 2 wash basins
and toilet.  There is also a seperate toilet.

An open-plan staircase leads to the first floor where there is a mezzanine with 2 x single beds and through to another bedroom with 2 x single beds, shower and wash basin

The house also has electric central heating for out of season visits.

The Miller's house is situated 30 metres uphill and sleeps 2-4 (see separate information) and can be rented together with the Watermill in the summer months.

 

 

The Miller's House

This is a small charming house 30 metres uphill of the Watermill.  On the ground floor there is a kitchenette/dining-room equipped with a stove and fridge, a bathroom with bathsink, shower and toilet, and on the first floor there is a large living/bedroom area that sleeps up to 4.

There is a small south facing terrace, but the house is also surrounded by shady trees.

 

The Miller's House will only be rented together with the Watermill and is ideal for older children or for an extra family.

The fee is an additional 150 euros per week.

 

 
 
 

 

How Do I get there? 

The location of the Watermill is 17km (15 mins) drive from the A20 (which is part of the main route through from Orleans to Toulouse).
You will need to exit at Junction 23.1 heading for Chateauponsac.

By train the nearest T.G.V. station is Poitiers, where you can then change to local railway to Bellac (15 mins) or Limoges. (40 mins)

By air there are now direct flights from Stansted Airport, London to Poitiers and also to Limoges, being operated by Ryanairlines and
there is car hire available at the airport.  Poitiers is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes drive away, and Limoges is 40 minutes.

**Children are welcome, but it must be stressed that care must be taken at all times as being a Watermill the property is surrounded by water.**
