Cottage near Bourganeuf

The cottage (ideal for a couple house-hunting) is situated in the Creuse, in the heart of the truly picturesque countryside of the Limousin, on the edge of a very rural, peaceful hamlet. The nearest town of Bourganeuf, is only 10 mins away, which is a beautiful thriving town with a wonderful Chateau and a variety of shops and a lively market every Wednsesday. There are a selection of bars and restaurants and a pizza house which offer good value for money lunches and dinners. The Auberge L'Atre is recommended which is in town or the "Chez Nous", an Auberge which is sign-posted off to the right just after leaving Bourganeuf in Masbaraud-Merignat, and provides basic French country food, in great volume! You will need to make a reservation, it is a set price and limited choice but an experience!.

Chatelus-le-Marchiex has a 35 hectare lake used for swimming, wind-surfing, sailing, and fishing which is only 15 mins drive. In summer months there is a Cafe/Pizza place open beside the lake for refreshments. You can also hire boats/canoes from the Pont de Dognon 15 minutes away. Only 45 minutes away is the 1000 hectare lake of Vassiviere where together with its watersport facilities you can enjoy a gourmet cruise aboard the "Vassiviere" for lunch or evening meal (available from Easter until October)

For restaurants, choose from St. Goussaud (25 mins), St. Sauviat sur Vige (10 mins), Ambazac (30 mins), Bourganeuf (10 mins), St. Leonard de Noblat (20 mins) all offer excellent menus from 10 euros.

For nature lovers there are hides for otter watching, and bird watching in close proximity. Walks in the local woods reveal a myriad of flaura and fauna, deer and wild pigs, wild flowers in the spring and summer and wild mushrooms and chestnuts in the autumn. Les Loup de Chabrieres (Forest of Wolves) on the outskirts of Gueret is well worth a visit as well as the Labrynth (Maze). Of course you should not leave without visiting Oradour-sur-Glane .

Of course a visit to Limoges is essential. The capital of the Limousin region and famous for its fine and unique porcelain.

Leading up to the first floor the stairs are closed but a bit steep and there is a double bedroom and a room with bunk beds.

A door off the landing leads up to the 2nd floor with stairs that have restricted height at the top and into the bedroom where there are 2 x single beds and electric radiators but the head height is restricted.

If you do not want to venture far there is a Boulangerie van which visits 5 days a week, and also a Grocer's van.

Outside you will find an area for relaxing at the front of the cottage, and 2 acres of land with orchard for exploring if feeling energetic.

How Do I get there?

The location of the cottage is 40km (45 mins) drive from the A20 (which is part of the main route through from Orleans to Toulouse).
You will need to exit at Junction 23.1 heading for Grand Bourg in the direction of Bourganeuf.

By air there are direct flights from Stansted Airport, London, Liverpool and East Midlands to Limoges and Stansted Airport, London to Poitiers operated by Ryanair and Southampton to Limoges by Flybe.
