A warm welcome and good food awaits you at Chateau de Memanat. The Chateau complex dates from 1679 and has recently been renovated and furnished to a high standard.

Situated in the beautiful Limousin countryside, the 50 acre site is set within a large loop of the river Taurion. The mature parkland was created in the 1870s together with avenues of oak and lime trees. The parkland extends to meadows and beautiful mature woodland on the slopes down to the river. The Taurion is a good Trout river and we own about a kilometre of bank.

Visitors are free to explore the extensive park, woodland and river walks. On the map the locality is called Les Chambons which translates as 'The Beautiful Place'.

The stone built farmhouse dates from 1679 and features traditional Creusois architecture. it has been sympathetically restored to retain as many of the original features as possible without compromising the comforts of modern living.

The Farmhouse is situated in the peaceful and tranquil grounds of Chateau de Memanat, with the buildings on a gentle south facing slope.

Accommodation will be for 12 people plus infants and is centrally heated.

On the ground floor the main Lounge features open oak beams, a large granite fireplace with a wood burning stove and a traditional bread oven. The large Dining room and Kitchen are open plan with the kitchen fully equipped and fitted with a large range style gas cooker, larder fridge, dish-washer and microwave oven. The dining area also has a wood burning stove and seating for at least 12 people. There is also a Laundry room/ WC on the ground floor.

On the 1st floor there is a second sitting room with TV and video. There is 1 bedroom with a king size bed and room for a single bed/cot if required, 1 bedroom with a king size bed and 1 bedroom with twin single beds. There is 1 bathroom with bath, separate shower and WC, 1 shower room with a large shower and WC, and a third washroom with WC.

On the 2nd floor there are 2 large family bedrooms, each with 3 single beds.

Outside:

The farmhouse has a private outside dining and barbecue area close to the swimming pool. The leisure area overlooks the park and contains the swimming pool and childrens swings. It is ideal for sunbathing or for just enjoying the view with a glass of wine. Garden furniture and barbecue facility are provided and there is also full access to the park, river and woodland walks.

Activities

At Memanat, we offer peace and tranquillity, and the chance to explore our park, woods and river. The Taurion is a good Trout river and we own about a kilometre of bank. We are currently working on a new leasure area in a secluded walled garden overlooking the park. By Easter 2006 it will contain a 30ft x 20ft heated outdoor swimming pool and childrens swings.

In the chateau we offer complementary therapy treatments. Our qualified (I.T.E.C, Guild of Professional practitioners) and very experienced British therapist is available, by appointment, to offer Reflexology, Reiki or Indian Head Massage treatments. Reflexology…The ancient art of foot or hand acupressure is relaxing and balancing and can ease a number of health problems. Reiki…The Jananese energy therapy to balance and harmonise the chakras of the body, stimulate the body's own ability to heal and evoke a sense of well-being or spiritual development. Indian head massage…the Ayurvedic pick-me-up. A relaxing, seated massage of the back, neck, head and face, ideal as a stimulant to aid tired minds or to calm headache and tense muscle problems.

This part of the Creuse has maintained its rural character making driving a pleasure, with trips to historic towns, local markets and other places of interest an enjoyable experience. It is a haven for ramblers, cyclists and country lovers with miles of green lanes, river walks, lakes and woods. Visit the local markets and purchase some of the fresh produce on offer, or maybe even take a trip to one of the many antique fairs or Brocante shops to see if you can find a bargain or two.

We have a very good equestrian centre at Chavanat which is approximately 2km from Memanat.

How Do I get there?

Chateau de Memanat is located in the Commune of Chavanat, 15 mins drive to the west of Aubusson and 5 mins from Route National 141 (Limoges - Clermont Ferrand).

By air there are now direct flights from Stansted Airport, London to Poitiers and also to Limoges, being operated by Ryanairlines
and there is car hire available at the airport. Poitiers is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive away, and Limoges is approximately 1 hour

Prices include electricity (summer only), water, bedding, towels (except swimming towels), hair dryer, cleaning products and logs.

Cot and high chair are available on request.

Evening meals can be provided by arrangement, either on the patio or in the Chateau.

Starter arrival packs of basic food and drink can be provided by prior arrangement.
