About The Moulin of Rebeyrolles

The Gite is situated at the end of a small road, and all the surrounding land is privately owned, so it is therefore an ideal place for that relaxing holiday where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life.

The property lies in the Creuse one of the least inhabited areas of France. If you are looking for peaceful, unspoilt countryside of gentle pastoral scenery, dramatic landscapes and breathtaking views… and water, water everywhere, then the Creuse is it.

La Souterraine is a lively market town, and known as a pilgrims halt. Some parts of the medieval ramparts, such as the massive portal of Saint-Jean still stand. The streets are lined with charming old houses. Don't miss the church and crypt with Gallo-Roman remains, and the lantern of the dead. The landscapes have amazing diversity from chestnut forests, to hills, valleys and lakes.

Limousin lies roughly in the centre of France and has preserved much of its natural beauty, it is renowned for its great feudal fortresses, renaissance chateaux, medieval towns and villages. It is the original place where the limousin cattle are bred.

We have many seating areas with patio furniture and BBQ's, take your meal down to the river, and look out for the wild life, which include Kingfishers and Wild Deer

From outside you walk into the large day room comprising; a well equipped kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge, gas cooker). Dining area with seating for up to eight people.

A lounge area with comfortable chairs, TV (french channels only), log burner for those chilly evenings, a well equipped library, and many board games. (Adjacent to the Gite is a barn with a Snooker Table, Table Tennis, Dart Board, and garden games e.g. Badminton, Boules etc).

On the first floor there are two bedrooms one large double, the other are twin. A large bathroom with twin sinks, a bath, and shower, is also on this floor. A separate toilet is adjacent to the bathroom.

The village of St Priest la Feuille is about a five minute car drive away, and has a local Tabac that sells fresh bread every morning, and also sells an excellent line in drinks throughout the day. There is an attached restaurant that has a mention in the local good food guides.

The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking; there are a couple of scenic circular walks that take in parts of the river.

The three lakes are approx twenty minutes drive away, a paradise for bathing, fishing, and all sorts of watersports.
Further away approx forty five minutes are the lakes Saint Pardoux and Lake Vassiviere. At Saint Pardoux several parts of the lake have been turned into beach areas with the usual facilities of pedalos, swimming and cafes. Also canoes, sailing, boats, water-skiing and windsurfing are available. All the above are also available at Lake Vassiviere, with paths for rambling or cycling, or if daring horse riding. There is a sculpture park for cultural strolls through the woods and the island in the middle of the lake is home to an ambitious Contemporary Art Museum.

Limoges is approx forty minutes away. The old town is full of character, and is the fusion of two cities, which after the sacking of the Roman built Augustoritum by the Barbarians, grew up separately over the centuries and was not united until the French Revolution.

Limoges' China only really emerged two hundred years ago when kaolin was discovered in a nearby town. Hard paste porcelain was first made in France in the 1760s.
Limousin paid a heavy toll in the two World Wars and was the main theatre of the French resistance in World War 11. In June 1944 the entire population of Oradour-sur-Glane was massacred by the German troops, in remembrance, and as a tribute to the people, the village has been moved two kms south, and the existing village left exactly as it was following the massacre (well worth a visit).

The Gite is approximately a six hour car journey from the Channel Tunnel or Ferry port of Calais. Limoges airport is about thirty minutes away, and there is an excellent rail service to Poitiers via Lille or Paris.
