La Bergerie, which was built around 1900, became our holiday home in December 2002 and has been completely refurbished since. It is situated approximately 17 kms from the towns of Bellac and St Junien, and 1 km from the pretty village of Cieux . This year, 2009, we have decided to let it out for long-term rental in excess of one-month.

The Haute Vienne is a department where traditions are still very much part of daily life. A particular attraction lies in the variety of its landscapes, which range from wooded slopes of the Basse-Marche to the rugged peaks of the Grands Monts. Here you can savour
the beauties of nature at a leisurely pace on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, and on the way discover the picturesque charm of the
little known villages such as Mortemart, Blond and Nedde. You will be surprised by the number of Romanesque chapels, fortified churches, chateaux and sturdy castles, not to mention the warm hospitality of the regions many family-owned inns.

Of course a visit to Limoges is essential. The capital of the Limousin region and famous for its fine and unique porcelain.

La Bergerie sleeps 2 - 8 people in two twin and two double bedrooms. Also on the first floor is one of two shower-rooms. Downstairs, there is the large entrance hall, a spacious living & dining room with an imposing fireplace, a roomy fitted kitchen, also with a large granite fireplace, a second shower-room, and separate toilet. Both fireplaces are fully functional. Underneath all of this is a cellar which is equipped as a utility room, with sink, washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board.

The house is full of character with lots of oak beams and other original features. It is comfortably furnished, and has a beautiful dining table which will easily seat 8 people. Equipment includes two TV’s, each with a video player (one is exclusively for videos, which can’t be played on a French TV), a DVD player, hi-fi with CD, tape deck & radio. A selection of CD’s, audio tapes and videos are provided. The kitchen has an electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, and electric kettle. Heating is by electric storage heaters on the ground floor, and fitted convector heaters upstairs. Hot water is automatically heated by electricity.

At the front of the house, the private and pretty garden runs to about 550 m2, mainly laid to grass and gravel. It contains many mature plants, trees and vines, and a moss covered stone bench. There is a gravelled and shaded terrace area for sitting out, along with outdoor furniture, sun beds, barbecue etc. Off road parking, for up to three cars is at the rear of the house on the grass verge.

There is a screened children’s play area with swings, slide and basketball net. The minor road at the rear of the house is very quiet, but in any case the garden is gated and secure.

The house is only 1 kilometre from the nearest village of Cieux which has all the facilities for day to day living including two boulangeries, boucherie, mini-market, tabac, two petrol stations, a pharmacie, a good auberge with a well regarded restaurant and another bar/restaurant. It also has an excellent primary school. The village overlooks a beautiful and extensive lake.

How Do I get there?

La Bergerie is a 20 minute drive from Limoges Airport.

By air there are now direct flights from UK to Limoges, being operated by Ryanairlines & Flybe
Car hire available at the airport.
